Keep the Light On

We tend to look to write our stories out line by line, but it doesn’t work that way. I’m an open book, filled with happiness and tragedy, it’s fine. I’ll live another day. Don’t wait up, but keep the light on. I need another chapter for a while. Don’t wait up, but keep the bed warm. Every night I’ll be dreamin’ ‘bout your smile, and how I’ll be coming home, in due time. Some might say nostalgia's for the weak and the scared of moving forward. But every day it reminds us of our roots and mistakes, the value of our word. Don’t wait up, but keep the light on. I need another chapter for a while. Don’t wait up, but keep the bed warm. Every night I’ll be dreamin’ ‘bout your smile, and how I’ll be coming home, in due time. As we grow old it’s harder by the day for us to make another new friend. As life unfolds, it’s more difficult to take a leap of faith, can’t shake our head space. Don’t wait up, but keep the light on. I need another chapter for a while. Don’t wait up, but keep the bed warm. Every night I’ll be dreamin’ ‘bout your smile, and how I’ll be coming home, in due time.

Staring Out into the Sea

There was a crisp in the air. It was biting at our skin, but the water still inviting for an end-of-summer swim. I can still hear the pulsing waves, feel my heartbeat in my throat, from when I lost sight of your face. You were nowhere near the boat. Here I am, staring out into the sea wishing you had not believed. You said everything will be alright, the guiding stars are out tonight. Don’t worry, we’ll be fine. Let’s get lost in the pale moonlight. Don’t worry, we’ll be fine. Let’s get lost in the pale moonlight. We swam there a thousand times. Every summer since we were young, which makes me take pause on just how hard it was you fought. I still feel I’m the one to blame for not keeping you in my sight. Things haven’t been the same since that cool September night. You were a true friend, straight to the end, when I was off, you were on. When I was down on my luck, you gave a fuck, turning the dark into dawn. So I’m trying to find my way, and the irony of it all is that friends are social at the surface now. Picture perfect online walls.

Judgement Day

It’s clear we don’t see eye to eye with you on your horse with head held high. I believe it deep within my bones; when walled with glass you shouldn’t throw stones. You have your ideals and I have mine. Steer your own wheel, don’t think of crossing the line. Be careful in the words you say when you color me bad on judgement day. Freedom means you can say what you think, but it also sets me free to be. So many souls, they cheat and lie with cross over heart to justify. You have your ideals and I have mine. Steer your own wheel, don’t think of crossing the line. Be careful in the words you say when you color me bad on judgement day.

Stay

Every night you’ve worn heavy on my head, on my heart. Fight or flight, I chose fighting in the end. I’m ready to start. We have different hopes, distant dreams, but things aren’t often quite as they seem. From whiskey to rope, I’ve considered it all. Any which way I could fall. Whenever you leave a piece of me dies. I can’t go alone with this weight on my shoulders. I’ve made my peace, it’s a different time. This world’s a lonely place. I don’t want you to stay, I need you to stay. I’d move mountains if it meant finding a road back to you. Life’s a fountain, flowing questions we’ve carried from our youth. We fit different truths, between the lies, whenever one wins, another one dies. We’ve got amends to make, lost ones to grieve. Tangled webs to weave. Whenever you leave a piece of me dies. I can’t go alone with this weight on my shoulders. I’ve made my peace, it’s a different time. This world’s a lonely place. I don’t want you to stay, I need you to stay. Lord I know I’ve been walking with the devilb but I’ve been living with the heartache. Who cares what people think? Don’t I know I’ve made my share of mistakes, but I’m getting on the level. I’m moving past the brink. United we stand, divided we fall. For this singular life it’s worth risking it all. TV news, driving us insane, so many voices invading our brains. We can cope if you’d only stay. Whenever you leave a piece of me dies. I can’t go alone with this weight on my shoulders. I’ve made my peace, it’s a different time. This world’s a lonely place. I don’t want you to stay, I need you to stay.

Hope in My Hand

You are the light at the end of this tunnel. My inspiration to be a better man. You get me like no one else ever will. You listen with patience, and work to understand. Let’s not fret over things we can never change. Let’s just do our part, the best that we can. Please know that especially when times are strange, we should focus on all that we have. I want for you to know you’re the hope in my hand. I want to be the same light for you. A north star, guiding you through these dark times. I hope I can release your worries too, and comfort that everything will be fine. Let’s not fret over things we can never change. Let’s just do our part, the best that we can. Please know that especially when times are strange, we should focus on all that we have. I want for you to know you’re the hope in my hand. I want for you to know that I love you more each and every day. I want for you to know, you’re the hope in my hand.
